Leicester City boss Claude Puel says Ben Chilwell deserves great credit for earning his first cap for England on Tuesday night. The Foxes left-back came on as a substitute in the Three Lions’ 1-0 win against Switzerland in the familiar surroundings of the King Power Stadium.
Puel has been pleased with Chilwell’s development at Leicester and feels the 21-year-old fully deserved to earn his first full England cap, having been called up by manager Gareth Southgate.
He told reporters: “It is a fantastic feeling for him. Encouragement to continue his hard work. Good reward for the club too.”
Meanwhile, French tactician Puel has confirmed Matty James underwent surgery on Wednesday to try and finally resolve his injury woes.
The midfielder has had a torrid time with Achilles problems and the club now hopes this latest operation will see the 27-year-old back in action in the near future.
