Pundit Axed Over Lukaku ‘Bananas’ Comment

An Italian TV football pundit has been axed after making a racist comment about Romelu Lukaku. Working for TopCalcio24, Luciano Passirani said the only way to stop the Inter Milan striker was to “give him 10 bananas to eat”.

Programme director Fabio Ravezzani confirmed the 80-year-old’s departure, describing his comment as “a terrible lack of momentary lucidity”.

The former Manchester United and Everton star helped Inter to a 1-0 victory over Udinese on Saturday which was when Passirani made his comment.

Lukaku was recently subjected to monkey chants by Cagliari fans and spoke afterwards about how the game was “going backwards” on the racism front.

He added: “We shouldn’t accept any form of discrimination that will put our game in shame. “I hope the football federations all over world react strongly on all cases of discrimination.”

Meanwhile, it has been alleged that AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie was targeted by racist abuse from Verona fans during their Serie A game on Sunday.
