Kimi Raikkonen says he is already looking forward to the next chapter in his career and hopes he can continue to prove people wrong. The Finn sprung a surprise last weekend when he recorded his first win in Formula 1 since the start of the 2013 season, clinching the chequered flag following a superb drive in the United States Grand Prix.
The 2007 world champion’s victory could be his last in Ferrari colours ahead of his switch to Sauber next year and he admits it was nice to deliver a timely reminder of his talents after such a long wait for a victory.
Despite currently driving for a team that is challenging for top spot on the podium, Raikkonen says he can not wait to move on and rejoin Sauber, admitting he is eager to begin his new life away from the Italian marque.
“I think people don’t understand I’m actually very happy where I’m going,” said Raikkonen.
“I had my time with Ferrari, I won the championship with them. I won many races with them and for me, as a driver, I want different challenges, I want different things and I’m actually very happy to go there.
“It’s roughly 40 minutes from my home. For sure my family will be happy, I’m happy to be with my family. I think it’s probably the best thing.
“I wasn’t really disappointed with the decision at any point. The only thing that I was interested in was to know what was going to happen and that’s the only thing.”
