Reds Explore Coutinho Possibility

Philippe Coutinho has admitted he could leave Barcelona amid reports Liverpool are exploring the idea of re-signing the playmaker. The Brazilian has struggled to make an impact since joining Barca from Liverpool in a deal worth £144million in January 2018 and the club are keen to move him on to raise transfer funds of their own.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have both been heavily linked with a swoop but it is thought that Coutinho would prefer to head to the latter if he had a choice, out of respect for the Reds. Chelsea have also been linked but their interest is complicated by the fact they are currently under a transfer ban, although the Blues have launched an appeal.

Coutinho is currently away at the Copa America with Brazil and does not seem sure about where he will be playing his football next season. “I don’t know if I will continue at Barcelona,” Coutinho said recently. “Nobody knows about the future and right now I am focused on playing with my team at the Copa America.”

There are claims Liverpool are weighing up making a move for their former talisman this summer although an agreement with Barca could be difficult to reach as there were several clauses – many still to be reached – that were inserted into the original deal and would have to be re-negotiated as part of any new transfer.

It is thought Coutinho would be open on a return to Anfield where he scored 54 goals and got 45 assists in 201 games across a five-year period between 2013 and 2018.
