Reed eyes Presidents Cup

Patrick Reed was pleased with his share of fifth at last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic and is eyeing a spot in the Presidents Cup team. The 28-year-old has not been at his best this season and Sunday’s result was his only top-10 of 2019. Having won the 2018 Masters, the Texan’s form plummeted and results such as fourth at the 2018 US Open have been few and far between.

Reed has not been near the top 10 since ending up tied for 14th at the WGC-Mexico Championship but looked in good nick in Detroit. And, after the dust had settled on round four, the world number 25 reflected on a decent week in Michigan. “Finishing top-10, especially going into next week and with The Open coming up, it was a positive week – I did a lot of things well,” he said.

“A day like today, where I felt like nothing was really going well, to be able to get a round under-par and salvage a round was nice.” The USA will face the Internationals in December and Reed admits that he does have one eye on Presidents Cup qualification. “It’s always on my mind,” he added. “If I continue doing what I’m doing, especially these next couple weeks, then hopefully it all takes care of itself.”
