Leeds Rhinos are reported to be weighing up a move for Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin but would face competition. The Warriors skipper is out of contract this year but Wigan are eager to tie him down to another deal which will take him into an 18th season.
However, Leeds are now considering a bid for the 35-year-old as they try to bolster their squad after a dismal 2018 campaign.
Leeds finished in the Super League’s bottom four and their poor form cost Brian McDermott his job.
Both Toronto and Newcastle Knights have been interested in O’Loughlin in the past but Leeds are hoping to take advantage of his contract uncertainty, according to Wigan Today.
New first-team coach Dave Furner and director of rugby Kevin Sinfield have played with the loose forward in the past and they see him as the ideal signing to try kick start the new regime at Headingley.
Leeds have already released Brett Delaney this year but fans are still waiting to hear if fellow veterans Brett Ferres and Jamie Jones-Buchanan will be staying put.
