Leeds Rhinos have been hit by the news prop Mitch Garbutt will miss the rest of the Super League season following knee surgery. The 29-year-old Australian missed the Rhinos last two matches because of the injury and it was hoped that he would return at some point as the side look to secure their top-flight status in the Qualifiers.
However, Director of Rugby Kevin Sinfield has confirmed that Garbutt’s injury required surgery and he will now be unavailable until the start of next season.
He told the club’s website: “Mitch is done for the year which is really unfortunate for him and the team. He has been playing with pain all year in his knee and we opted to get it sorted with surgery.
“Once the surgeon has gone in, there has been a fair bit to repair work that was needed and that will mean Mitch is out for a couple of months as he recovers.
“It is really tough for him because he is big part of our squad but I know he will come back even stronger now we have got the issue sorted.”
