Rice Eager For England Chance

Declan Rice is looking for a big season with West Ham in 2019-20 and hopes to get the call to play for England this summer. The 20-year-old is now established as a regular first-team fixture at the London Stadium and started 34 of the Hammers’ Premier League games this season.

After making the decision to throw in his lot internationally with the Three Lions having played at multiple age-group levels for the Republic of Ireland, he has won two full caps for Gareth Southgate’s side.

The Kingston-born midfielder has been linked with a move away from the East End after his displays for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this term but it seems as though the youngster is already looking forward to next season with his present employers.

“For me personally, I don’t think I could have wished for a better season,” he told the club’s website. “I’m delighted to have done what I’ve done and I can’t wait to kick on again next season.”

Many players will already be on their holidays but there is the possibility that Rice could be involved when England take on the Netherlands in the Nations League semi-finals on June 6. Regardless of the outcome of that encounter, there will be another match to be played on June 9 – either the final of the third-place play-off – and Rice is keen to get the nod.

“Of course, I want to be in that England squad and that’s what I’m hoping,” he added. “That’s why I want it to be a short holiday. I’ve got to be prepared for anything, but I’d be delighted with that.”
