Robson Happy With Latest Comeback

Laura Robson says her “body held up” after making her return to competitive action following eight months on the sidelines. The former British number one had hip surgery last June and has struggled with a number of injury issues in recent years, dating back to a wrist complaint in 2014.

Robson lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (8-10) 6-0 to Liechtenstein’s world number 162 Kathinka von Deichmann in the ITF W60 in Shrewsbury on Tuesday, but she was happy with her comeback regardless of the result. “It was nice to be back,” Robson told the BBC. “I’m quite happy that my body held up. “I definitely had some rust but that can only improve by playing more matches. “Especially with the second round of surgery, it’s quite difficult to find the motivation to rehab all over again, so I’m really happy that I’ve actually made it back to a tournament.”

Robson reached a career-high 27th in the WTA rankings in 2013 but is now ranked outside the top 500 after her extended spells on the sidelines.
The 25-year-old is targeting the W25 tournament in Glasgow, which begins on February 18, for her next event.
