Roma Ready Raid For Premier League Defender

Roma have reportedly shown interest in Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren after being frustrated in efforts to sign Toby Alderweireld. Gazzetta dello Sport believe Roma are now keen on Lovren after the Belgian defender declared he expected to remain a Spurs player for the upcoming campaign.

The 30-year-old has two years left on the current contract that he signed two years ago, but dropped down the pecking order at Anfield last season. Jurgen Klopp preferred Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk in the early part of last season before the Englishman’s injury allowed Lovren a chance.

But he made only 11 Premier League starts as Joel Matip got the nod in the big games with Lovren appearing in only one Champions League game after Christmas – the dead rubber quarter-final second leg against Porto. Gazzetta state that Lovren would be available for around £15million and note the good relationship between the two clubs following deals to bring Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker to Anfield from the Italian capital in recent seasons.
