Rondon Winning Fitness Race

Newcastle forward Salomon Rondon is winning his race to be fit and hopes to be ready when the Magpies take on Brighton this month.

The 29-year-old has been forced to sit out Newcastle’s last two games after picking up a thigh injury but the international break could not come at a better time and gives him chance to recover.

Rondon has also struggled for form since arriving from West Brom in the summer and has managed just one goal which came in the Carabao Cup against Nottingham Forest.

The striker will be keen get back fit as soon as possible so he can prove himself at St James’s Park, and it looks as though he should be back to face the Seagulls.

Rondon has not jetted off on international duty with Venezuela and will instead spend the time working hard in the gym back in Newcastle with a view to being fit for the return of Premier League action.

If fit then Rafa Benitez has a decision to make over whether to bring him back in or keep faith with the side that slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.
