Root Wants To Add More Runs For Yorkshire

England captain Joe Root is determined to build on his opening century as Yorkshire drew their opening championship game with Nottinghamshire.

Yorkshire were set a notional target of 447 to win but reached 277-2 after tea when the two skipper’s decided to call it a draw but by then both Root and Gary Balance had hit unbeaten centuries for the white rose.

Root came through the innings despite being struck on the head by England team-mate Stuart Broad and he is determined to keep his good form with the bat going before he teams up with England again.

Root will play for Yorkshire against Hampshire and he is keen to sign off in style before he links up with England’s one-day team.

“I have to start again against Hampshire and try to make another big one,” he said. “I thought Gary Ballance played magnificently. “He had to take a bit of a barrage and dealt with it a little differently to me but just as effective.”
