Southampton End Inter Defender Chase

Southampton have now ‘dropped out’ of the race to sign Inter Milan defender Zinho Vanheusden, according to reports in the Belgian media. Saints were first linked with the 19-year-old two years ago when he was still in the Inter academy although nothing materialised and he remained in Italy.

The Belgium Under-21 ace, who spent three years in the Inter youth set-up, was then loaned out to Standard Liege for the second half of the 2017-18 season and for all of last term. He caught the eye with 26 top-flight appearances for Les Rouges in 2018-19 and it has been claimed that the Stade Maurice Dufrasne outfit want him to sign a permanent deal after his impressive loan stint.

Southampton were again linked earlier this month and, according to Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, have already held discussions over the starlet. However, the report also claims that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s interest has now waned and the south-coast outfit are no longer interested. Wolves are reportedly still in the race but face competition from Serie A club Sassuolo, who are allegedly at the front of the queue for the youngster’s signature.
