Sanches Reveals He Wanted Bayern Stay

Renato Sanches has revealed he never wanted to leave Bayern Munich but had to for the good of his career. The Portuguese star arrived at the Allianz Arena with the world, quite literally, at his feet but, unfortunately for everyone involved, the move did not go to plan.

Sanches spent most of his time out on loan and when he did return to Munich, he was unable to make any kind of impact and force his way into the first-team squad.

The forward was involved in a war of words with the club before eventually completing a permanent move to French side Lille during the summer transfer window.

Sanches has now spoken out and although there were many unhappy times in Bavaria, there were good times, too. “I wanted to stay but things did not go as I wanted,” he said. “Despite it all, it was significant for me to play at Bayern Munich, I learned a lot. It is there where I became more mature, more adult-like.”

Sanches has also admitted the move to a club the size of Bayern probably came too soon for him. “In the first year, I did not adapt very well,” he added.

“I was not ready because it was too rapid a change for me. I had only been a professional footballer for six months at Benfica and, all of a sudden, I moved to one of the best clubs in the world. “When I arrived there, everything was completely different. But from the beginning of the second year, I started to adapt.”
