Sarries Handed Barritt Boost

Saracens have been boosted by the news that captain Brad Barritt will be fit for Saturday’s Premiership final against Exeter Chiefs. The former England international was considered a major doubt for the Twickenham showpiece after he was forced off with a hamstring injury during the first half of last week’s playoff semi-final triumph over Gloucester.

However, it has now been confirmed that Barritt has recovered from that issue and he will take his place in an unchanged starting XV for the European Champions Cup winners. Sarries director of rugby Mark McCall is expecting a tough challenge against an Exeter team that finished top of the regular season standings and will be contesting their fourth-consecutive Premiership final.

“I think Exeter are a great side and they’re a club we’ve got huge respect for,” McCall told the BBC. “They’re in their fourth final with huge match experience and that’s why it’s a very fresh challenge for us.” Exeter, who beat Northampton Saints to book their place in the final, have also named an unchanged starting line-up.

The Chiefs will be looking to improve on their disappointing record at Twickenham, as they have only won once in seven matches at the venue. Head coach Ali Hepher knows the Chiefs will have to make sure they bring their ‘A’ game before they start worrying about Saracens. Hepher said: “You’ve got to get your own game in order, but certainly you’ve got to be smart with it, you can’t be stupid.”
