Schmeichel Grateful For Cross-Club Support

Kasper Schmeichel has thanked fans from across the football community for their response to the club’s recent tragedy. Tributes have continued for chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha who was one of five people killed when the helicopter they were in crashed soon after taking off from the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes players flew to Thailand at the weekend to be part of his funeral and have now returned to training in preparation to face Burnley on Saturday.

It is certain to be another emotional afternoon, with the players set to wear special shirts to honour the man known as ‘The Boss’.

However it is not just Leicester fans who have been respectful as Cardiff supporters showed solidarity with the visiting fans last weekend and the same is expected when the Clarets arrive in the East Midlands.

Leicester became everyone’s second team when they won the title in 2015-16 and Schmeichel is glad that fans have rallied around and backed the club once again in the face of such unexpected circumstances. “The season we won the title we got some amazing reactions at away stadiums as well,” he said.

“We didn’t really want it to be like this but at the end of the day we are human beings, everyone is a human being and we are thankful for all the support we have received. “That is what sport can do. It can bring people together in ways not many people can.

It is good to see when tragedy does strike that everybody clubs together. “It doesn’t matter what team you support or what sport you support, everyone gets together and rallies around.”
