Scotland have been hit by the news lock Richie Gray will be missing for up to four months after being told he needs back surgery.
The 29-year-old, who currently plays his rugby with Toulouse, has already undergone one back operation in the summer of 2017, and has now been told he needs more.
Gray has only played 60 minutes of rugby this season and it is hoped the operation will put an end to his issues once and for all.
The news comes as a big blow to Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend as Gray will miss the November Tests and also at least the start of the Six Nations next year.
Townsend, who is due to name his latest squad, is already without full-back Stuart Hogg and tight-head prop Zander Fagerson for the November fixtures against Wales, Fiji, South Africa and Argentina.
