Trainer George Scott is pleased with James Garfield’s preparations ahead of Saturday’s 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock.
The three-year-old endured a difficult start to the season, finishing a disappointing seventh in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, but he produced an improved display on his last outing at Deauville, when he was only narrowly pipped to victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest by Polydream.

Frankie Dettori was in the saddle for that run and Scott is so keen to keep the partnership going that he plans to fly the Italian straight to Haydock following his ride on Enable at Kempton.
Dettori has been working with James Garfield and Scott is delighted by the duo.
“We’ve been really pleased with his preparation leading into the race since France,” Scott told At The Races.
“Frankie had a sit on him yesterday morning and was delighted with him, so we’re very much looking forward to Saturday.”
Scott has also hinted that James Garfield is on course to run at Ascot on Champions Day if he can produce the goods at Haydock.
“We’re taking it one race at a time, but after this I’d imagine he’ll end up at Ascot on Champions Day although that might depend on how he handles the ground and how he comes out of the race. Beyond that, there are lots of options,” Scott added.
