Siewert Leaves BVB

Borussia Dortmund’s reserve-team coach Jan Siewert has been confirmed as the new manager of Huddersfield Town.

The 36-year-old had been heavily linked with the position following the sacking of David Wagner and the move is now official after he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Terriers.

Siewert had spells as assistant coach of the German Under-17 and Under-18 sides and after one year as head coach of fourth-tier side Rot-Weiss Essen he moved on to Bochum, where he was assistant to Dutch head coach Gertjan Verbeek before joining Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle has expressed his delight at being able to land his top target. “Jan’s name came to our attention in his previous role as Assistant Manager and Under-19 Coach at VfL Bochum.

We first spoke with him over two years’ ago and we’ve kept in communication since, watching his progress with interest,” he told the club’s official website.

“His reputation in the game is very good; he’s known as a coach who is ambitious, has many qualities and who has strong philosophies. As such, it came as no surprise to us when he moved to one of the world’s biggest clubs; Borussia Dortmund.”
