Sigurdsson Talks Up Everton’s Quality

Gylfi Sigurdsson feels Everton’s recent run of impressive form is down to the amount of quality they have within their squad. The Toffees have picked up 16 points from their last seven Premier League games, with Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Cardiff seeing them move into the top-six of the standings.

Iceland international Sigurdsson has been one of the driving forces behind Everton’s impressive run, not least as he scored the winning goal against Cardiff, but he feels it is not about the individuals within Marco Silva’s team, but more about the overall quality of the squad. “I think the squad is looking really good,” he told evertontv.

“There is a lot of competition for places in the starting XI. I think that’s only a good thing. “We have got a big squad now. We’ve got some very good players who aren’t playing and are eager to come in and prove themselves.”

Sigurdsson’s goal on Saturday was his sixth strike in the Premier League this season, drawing him level with Richarlison as the Toffees’ leading scorer.

The former Swansea star feels the key to his impressive return in front of goal is about finding the right positions in the penalty area. “It was nice to get the rebound and tap it in for the three points,” added Sigurdsson.

“They all count and it was a very important goal. “You try to time your runs into the box. Of course, I didn’t expect it to come off the keeper. “But, as long as you’re in the right positions, you’re going to get that chance somewhere along the line.”
