Everton manager Marco Silva says Andre Gomes scoring his first goal for the club can help him have a greater impact on the team.
The on-loan Portuguese midfielder netted from distance to equalise against Wolves on Saturday.
However, it did not prove enough as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men scored twice without reply to win 3-1 and leave Silva under increasing pressure after losing six of his previous nine games.
Gomes was signed on the final day of the summer transfer window but initially took a while to get into the side due to a lack of playing time and fitness from his Barcelona days.
He is now a regular member of the starting line-up and Silva is backing the 25-year-old can lift his game following Saturday’s goal. “It was an important moment for Andre, his first goal for Everton,” Silva told evertonfc.com. “It was an important moment too for our team.
Unfortunately, that didn’t help us achieve a good result. “Of course, I am pleased with that initial reaction [to equalise]. But to be honest, that is our obligation. “We started the game with a penalty against us and 1-0 down.
But we responded and had the chance through Theo and after that we scored a very good goal though Andre. “But again, the game was balanced in that moment. We knew it would be tough but we were in control of it.”
