Smith Is A Target – Davies

Anderlecht assistant Simon Davies has confirmed the club are looking to sign Manchester City’s Matthew Smith this summer. Davies has followed Vincent Kompany out of the Eithad Stadium after taking the position as Anderlecht’s number two, supporting the Belgium international who has been named player-manager.

City’s former captain is expected to take some of the Citizens’ younger players on loan next season as he aims to rebuild the Purple & Whites, who have failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in 56 years. Speaking about specific targets, Davies revealed midfielder Smith, who spent last term on loan at FC Twente from City, is someone the Belgian outfit are interested in bringing to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

“In terms of Matty Smith, he’s a player that has been considered in the past, but it’s not just as easy as you like that someone and you get that person, there’s a lot of business and you speak to a lot of people about the situation,” he said. “He’s someone of interest.”
