Smith Pens New All Blacks Deal

New Zealand Rugby has confirmed scrum-half Aaron Smith has re-signed for the next two years, while Ryan Crotty is set to move to Japan. Smith’s signature is a timely boost for the All Blacks ahead of the World Cup and the 30-year-old has also agreed a new contract with Super Rugby team the Otago Highlanders.

He has resigned until 2021, while Crotty joins the long list of players who will move away from New Zealand at the conclusion of the World Cup. Full-back Ben Smith, captain Kieran Read and tighthead prop Owen Franks will now be joined by Crotty as he prepares to move to Japan, after making 44 appearances for the All Blacks.

Confirming Smith’s new deal, New Zealand Rugby chief executive Steve Tew said: “We’re delighted to have re-signed Aaron through to 2021. “He’s a proven world-class player, the most capped All Blacks halfback ever and an incredibly important member of the All Blacks and Highlanders.”
