Solskjaer Hails Reds Reaction

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised the character of his players for managing a 0-0 draw with Liverpool despite a raft of injuries.

United lost Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and his replacement Jesse Lingard all to hamstring injuries in a first half that was disrupted by injuries, but the Reds managed to compose themselves to take a point.

United caretaker boss Solskjaer was taken aback by the flurry of first-half injuries but was pleased with the way his side coped to keep themselves in the game.

“I’ve never seen the like of this before, three hamstrings in the first half,” he said. “Rashy (Marcus Rashford) was kicked, did his ankle straight away we should have taken him off as well, we played with 10 and a half but Rashy’s attitude made up for it.

“I learned a lot about the players today, Scott McTominay was a ‘Darren Fletcher’ for us, absolutely fantastic.

“Andreas (Pereira) has had criticism lately but he’s had to come on and I thought he did fantastic so I learned a lot about the character of the team.

“I was very impressed by my team today: the attitude, the character we showed in adversity because everything that could’ve gone wrong in the first half went wrong.”
