Solskjaer Refuses To Rule Out Top-Four Finish

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t given up on a top-four finish after Wednesday’s 2-0 derby defeat at Old Trafford. United went down 2-0 to Manchester City on Wednesday evening and remain sixth in the league table with three games remaining.

Solskjaer’s side are three points adrift of Chelsea in fourth and two behind Arsenal, who also lost on Wednesday at Wolves, but the Norwegian feels the top four remains a realistic target. United face Chelsea at Old Trafford this weekend and Solskjaer knows that is a must-win fixture if they are to continue their battle for Champions League qualification.

“We need more quality on Sunday and if we win that game, we have two games [to try to get into the Champions League],” he told the club website. “Of course, we want to get into the top four. I haven’t been planning on playing on Thursday nights yet. We just have to make sure we give ourselves a chance on Sunday.

“We’re three games away from the end of the season, we’re three points behind the top four and no-one would have given us a chance a few months ago. “It’s maybe taken its toll on the players. It’s my job now to see who wants to sacrifice enough to be here.” United’s final two games are against Huddersfield Town (a) and Cardiff City (h).
