South Koreans Set Early Wyndham Pace

South Korea’s Byeong Hun An and Sungjae Im took advantage of the low-scoring conditions to share the lead after round one of the Wyndham Championship.

An and Im both shot the best rounds of their PGA Tour careers as they recorded eight birdies to sign for an eight-under 62 on the opening day at the Sedgefield Country Club.

That gives them a one-shot lead heading into Friday with a group of four, including Rory Sabbatini and Mackenzie Hughes, sat on seven-under.

There are a whole host of big names within striking distances of the early leaders with defending champion Brandt Snedeker two shots off the pace after he made three birdies on both the front and back nine to put himself in a strong position.

Snedeker, who shot a 59 on the opening day of last year’s Wyndham Championship, is joined on six-under by three-time major champion Jordan Spieth after a strong end to his first round, picking up three shots in the space of four holes on the back nine.

However, the Texan felt he could easily have gone lower and is feeling confident heading into the second round in Greensboro. “You want putts for birdie.

You want to be hitting greens in regulation,” Spieth said. “Really, two bad swings today kept it from being my lowest round on the PGA Tour. There’s a lot of good in that.” Webb Simpson also carded a 64, as did Ireland’s Seamus Power, who registered an eagle and four birdies during his blemish-free round.

England’s Paul Casey didn’t drop a shot either as he carded birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th on his way to signing for a five-under 65.
