Southgate Rules Out Chelsea Job

England boss Gareth Southgate has ruled out the possibility of taking over at Chelsea, should Maurizio Sarri leave the club. It only appears to be a matter of time before Sarri leaves Stamford Bridge to take the vacant position at Italian Serie A champions Juventus, and Southgate has been mentioned as a replacement.

Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland, who was with Chelsea for six years before linking up with England, has also been linked, but talk of them both leaving for the Blues, has been played down. Southgate has worked wonders with the England team, but says there is still plenty of work to be done, and he is not finished yet, with the European Championships fast approaching.

“There’s no way that I would leave England at this point in time, to take any job,” Southgate said. “The only thing on my mind is that we’ve got a European Championship next summer and we’ve got to keep improving to be the best possible team we can be for this country. “Why would I rush to leave that opportunity and chance to affect not just the football but the other parts that the role brings. My sole focus is producing the best team possible for England.”
