Spieth Happy To Be In The Mix

Jordan Spieth was happy with how he coped with blustery conditions after his opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge. The three-time major winner finds himself just one shot off the lead, as his five-under 65 at Colonial Country Club saw him stay within touching distance of overnight leader Tony Finau.

Spieth admitted it was tough going at times but was pleased he could back in the clubhouse with a five-under score before the action resumes at Colonial on Friday. “I would’ve signed for it (65) before the day started,” Spieth said. “A few under when the wind blows out here is a really nice score.

It’s tough to hit fairways and hold the fairways.” Roger Sloan also showed positive signs in his opening round and the Canadian joined Spieth on five-under, while nine players are in the chasing pack, all on three-under par.
