Spirit the key for Moutinho – Completesports

Wolves’ Joao Moutinho praised the spirit of his side after they battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle. The pair scrapped it out at Molineux, with Isaac Hayden putting the Magpies ahead on 56 minutes, only for Willy Boly to head in an equaliser after the allotted four minutes of stoppage time had already expired.

Rafael Benitez was left cursing his luck but opposite number Nuno Espirito Santo praised the way his team stuck to their task to extend their unbeaten run to six in all competitions.

Wolves looked sluggish at times on Monday evening, with the team perhaps a touch lethargic after spending time doing some warm-weather training in Spain. Speaking to the club’s website, Moutinho praised the efforts of his team on an off night, hailing the manner in which they went deep into stoppage time. “We fight until the end; we fight until the ref’s whistle,” he said. “I think we created opportunities to score one, two or three goals but it didn’t happen. “We continued to try it in the last minute because we try it all the game and we deserved that draw. But we need to continue to work, and improve, and win our games.”
