Spurs Eye Targets In Europa League Clash

Spurs could be back on the trail of Ante Rebic after sending a scout to watch his Eintracht Frankfurt side lose at Benfica on Thursday. Unlike some Premier League clubs, Spurs are not permanent residents at Benfica matches so the appearance of their name on the official scout list for the match at the Stadium of Light could be significant.

Tottenham were linked to young Benfica prospect Jota last month but the 20-year-old, who sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes, was not expected to play last night. However, Rebic did play a full part and was strongly linked to Spurs last summer after his impressive displays for Croatia at the World Cup.

The 25-year-old has scored nine Bundesliga goals in 18 starts this season – his best return since joining the club from Fiorentina in 2017, initially on loan. Spurs tried to sign Rebic in 2013 before he joined the Florence-based club and it would be no surprise to see them return for him this summer, although they can expect to be quoted in excess of £30million.

“I can’t deny many clubs, some from England, expressed an interest,” said Rebic earlier this season. “The Premier League is attractive and it would suit my style. I’d like to experience it.”
