Tottenham are being linked with a January swoop for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera but will face strong competition for his services. Spurs failed to make any signings in the summer transfer window and are working on deals now to ensure the same does not happen again when the January window opens.
A midfielder is high on the wanted list of Mauricio Pochettino as Mousa Dembele has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and Herrera has emerged as a possible target.
Herrera was a key part of Porto’s title-winning side last season and has made 70 appearances for the Mexico national team, and ticks all the boxes as far as Tottenham are concerned.
Italian outfit Roma are also said to be showing an interest in the 28-year-old, so Spurs could face a battle to get him on board if they do pursue a deal.
Ajax youngster Frenkie De Jong is also said to be a target, but again there will be competition, with Barcelona said to be in the hunt.
