Spurs Youngster Ruled Out For Season

Tottenham youngster Luke Amos has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

The England youth international had been pushing for a place in the Spurs first-team after impressing during pre-season and he came on as a late substitute for Eric Dier during the 2-1 victory over Newcastle on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign.

Amos was rewarded for his impressive form by last month signing a new contract that runs until the summer of 2021, although he has now been dealt a major blow in his development, as he has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury during a recent under-23s match against Blackburn.

“Luke Amos will undergo surgery next week after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament,” Spurs revealed on Twitter.

“The midfielder sustained the injury during Friday’s #PL2 win against Blackburn Rovers and the rehabilitation required means he will not be expected to return to action until next season.”

The 21-year-old, who has enjoyed loan spells with Southend and Stevenage in the past, confirmed his disappointment at the injury, but he is hopeful of returning a stronger player.

“Devastated but thank you everyone for your messages of support,” Amos tweeted.
