Sri Lanka Close In On Historic Win

Sri Lanka could make history after they ended day two of the second Test on 60-2, chasing 137 more runs to defeat South Africa. The tourists are looking to become the first Asian team to win a Test series on South African soil and, having won the first Test by one wicket, they have moved into a great position to seal a 2-0 victory.

South Africa had earlier dismissed Sri Lanka for 154 in their first innings, with Kagiso Rabada (4-38) and Duanne Olivier (3-61) doing the most damage for the Proteas.

The hosts started their second innings with a lead of 68, but their hopes of building up a sizeable advantage at Port Elizabeth were ruined as Suranga Lakmal (4-39) and part-time spinner Dhananjaya de Silva (3-36) shared seven wickets to help remove them for just 128.

Set a tricky 197 for the win, Sri Lanka lost captain Dimuth Karunaratne and fellow opener Lahiru Thirimanne to the bowling of Olivier and Rabada respectively.
But Oshada Fernando and Kusal Mendis were unbeaten at the crease at stumps with Sri Lanka on 60-2 and now in with a great chance to wrap up the win on Saturday.
