Still Work To Do For Jones

England boss Eddie Jones says there is still work to do for his side despite booking their place in the last eight of the Rugby World Cup. After recording bonus-point victories over USA and Tonga, the Red Rose’ tournament stepped up a level on Saturday as they faced Argentina in Tokyo.

However, their task was made significantly easier when Pumas’ lock Tomas Lavanini was sent off after 18 minutes for a high tackle on Owen Farrell. Jonny May had already touched down for England and they made light work of their extra man advantage, running in six tries on their way to a 39-10 victory. The result means they have now qualified from Pool C ahead of next Saturday’s match with France in Yokohama.

Jones was satisfied with the result but says there are still areas to work on going forward in the tournament. “Look, we’re exactly where we wanted to be, we’re 15 points after three games,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “We’ve played in front of a fantastic crowd at Tokyo Stadium and it’s another great day for the World Cup.

“We just need to simplify our game a little bit. With them having one off we were probably just trying to push the game a little bit too much and we’re a bit rusty after two easy games and a long break and that came out a bit. Second half we got a bit better rhythm.”
