Manchester City ace John Stones could be kept waiting until next summer before talks commence over signing a new deal at the Etihad. The England central defender recently stated he is happy playing under Pep Guardiola and is keen on extending his stay beyond his present contract ending in 2022.

Stones does appears to be winning over his wider critics and has been the preferred starter this term playing alongside Aymeric Laporte, which has seen the Citizens’ defence also keep eight clean sheets in their last nine outings in all competitions.
Guardiola is understood to be impressed with how Stones is developing under his guidance and remains convinced the classy 24-year-old can become one of the best in his position as he continues to mature.
He has even been utilised in central midfield this season and the former Everton man, who cost £49m when he moved from Goodison Park two years ago, is known to have formed an extremely close bond with the City manager.
However, City currently have a raft of contract negotiations on their plate, most notably, winger Raheem Sterling, who has reportedly verbally agreed to new terms, so club sources have hinted Barnsley-born Stones might have to show a degree of patience for now.
