Surman’s Season Seemingly Over

Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman is expected to miss the rest of the season with a calf injury. The former England Under-21 international has not featured since the Cherries’ 2-0 victory at Huddersfield earlier this month after sustaining a strain to his calf in training.

The severity of the injury was not initially known but reports are now suggesting the experienced 32-year-old is set to miss the rest of the campaign. Surman’s prolonged absence will certainly come as a blow to Bournemouth, particularly as the former Norwich midfielder has been filling in as captain in the continued absence of regular skipper Simon Francis, who is also expected to miss the rest of the season through injury.

Another one of Bournemouth’s more experienced players, Steve Cook, is also currently on the treatment table with Eddie Howe’s squad looking threadbare heading into the business end of the season. Surman has featured 18 times for Bournemouth in the Premier League this term and he remains under contract at the Vitality Stadium until the summer of 2020.
