Surrey Sign Bowler Moriarty

Young bowler Daniel Moriarty has penned a two-year deal with the Surrey first team after impressing for the second string. The 20-year-old played four red-ball matches for the second side in August and September and has now done enough to warrant a two-year stay with the first team.

The left-handed spinner can also play as a middle and lower-order batsman, and says he is thrilled to have been given an opportunity to feature at first-class level. “I’m very proud and honoured to have been offered a contract with one of the most prestigious counties in the game,” said Moriarty.

“I really enjoyed my time with the second 11 earlier this year and I’m now looking forward to getting stuck in and pushing for a place in the first team.”

Director of cricket Alec Stewart added: “Following promising performances with the MCC Young Cricketers and our second 11 this summer, he has shown enough potential to earn this contract with the club.” The club has also announced that all-rounder Nico Reifer has been handed a one-year rookie contract to the end of the 2020 season after turning out for the second team.
