Thelwell Says Wolves Are Working On New Deals

Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell admits the backroom team are working hard to sign new players. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men had an outstanding season last year and qualified for the Europa League by finishing 7th despite only just being promoted from the Championship.

Their season will get underway earlier than usual because of Europe, as they will face either Northern Ireland’s Crusaders or the Faroe Islands’ B36 Torshavn on July 25 in the first leg of the second qualifying round.

So far, no new players have been brought into the club with the £35million permanent addition of Raul Jiménez being the only piece of business so far. However, Thelwell says they will not be panicked into signing players and they are working on the right new recruits.

“We need to be judged when the transfer window closes because it is all about securing the right player that’s going to be able to help us going forward for a long period,” Thelwell told the Wolves website. “We’d all want it to be done much earlier, but it never works out that way.

We’re working very hard and we’re confident we’ll secure the right players to help us this season. “We’re not expecting a huge amount of movement in or out, truth be known. I think we’ve got a very strong and solid group of players, and we want to build on the momentum and cohesion we’ve already got, and Nuno’s been very focused on that.”
