Thomas Makes Loan Switch From Gills To Carlisle

Sheffield United winger Nathan Thomas will continue his nomadic existence after leaving loan club Gillingham for another loan spell with Carlisle United. Having been on the book at clubs such as Sunderland, Darlington, Plymouth, Motherwell, Mansfield and Hartlepool, the 24-year-old signed for the Blades in 2017.

However, the 24-year-old has only made three appearances for the club, scoring two goals along the way, with loan stints at Shrewsbury Town and Notts County before a temporary spell with Carlisle during the second half of last season.

He was loaned to the Gills this summer but the Kent outfit agreed to terminate his contract after the winger confessed that he and his family had struggled to settle in the area. Thomas is now back at Brunton Park until June 2020 and Cumbrians boss Steven Pressley admitted he did not have to be asked twice when hearing that his former player was keen to return.

“He was one of my main targets and we were obviously disappointed when he initially went to Gillingham,” he said. “His agent contacted me about ten days ago to inform me that Nathan and his family hadn’t quite settled in the area, and he asked if we would still consider taking him in. Of course the answer was yes to that.

“We’re delighted that we’ve got it over the line because he’s a really exciting player. He has the qualities I want but he knows that I feel there are certain aspects of his game, and this includes his fitness, which need to be improved upon.”
