Three Players That Can Help England To U21 Glory

Three Players That Can Help England To U21 Glory

With the European Under-21 Championship just around the corner, which three players can inspire England to a third title?

It has been 35 years of hurt for England in this tournament, having lifted the trophy in 1982 and 1984, but their squad is brimming with talent and are one of the favourites to go all the way.

Aidy Boothroyd has a number of options at his disposal for the event hosted by Italy and San Marino, and these are the three players that are crucial to the young Three Lions.

1) James Maddison

Maddison has enjoyed a fantastic debut Premier League season after moving to Leicester City last summer and his exploits on the pitch even brought about calls for a place in England’s senior squad.

The 22-year-old scored seven goals and registered the same amount of assists from 36 league appearances and his creativity will be absolutely crucial in the tournament.

2) Tammy Abraham

Abraham has been a key cog for Aston Villa in the Championship this term and his 26 goals helped Dean Smith’s men earn promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 21-year-old also has a good record for England’s U21’s, scoring eight goals from 22 caps, and he was his country’s joint-top scorer when they won the 2018 Toulon Tournament.

3) Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Like Maddison, Wan-Bissaka’s performances this season brought about talk of a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League Finals.

The right-back has been in tremendous form for Crystal Palace and he has the third-best tackling rate in the Premier League this term.

Not only has he excelled in defence, but the 21-year-old has also been a threat coming forward and he registered three assists from 35 league appearances.
