Tomkins Wants Positive End To Week

Hull Kingston Rovers captain Joel Tomkins wants to end a tough week with victory over Wigan Warriors on Sunday. The Robins parted company with coach Tim Sheens on Wednesday, with former Huddersfield, Leeds and Warrington chief Tony Smith stepping into the role until the end of the campaign.

He has been tasked with trying to turn things around at KCOM Craven Park, with Rovers 11th of the 12 Super League teams after winning just five of their 16 games to date. Tomkins has urged his team-mates to draw a line under the off-field activities and focus their efforts on getting the right result this weekend.

“Regardless of what’s happened this week, it’s a huge game for us,” he told Hull KR TV. “Wigan are only a couple of places above us in the league and if we can get a win it will give us a real boost and we can start climbing that table.

“Obviously it’s been a difficult week with Tim leaving but the players have got together and had a chat. We’ve made it clear that we need to get a win this week. To finish the week with a win will be a massive positive. We all have to take responsibility and get that win.”
