Tono Detained By Police

Levante defender Antonio Tono has been arrested on suspicion of extortion and threats just days after signing a new contract. The 29-year-old, who has made 17 La Liga appearances for the Frogs this season, recently put pen to paper on an extension that will see him through until the end of the 2023 season. However, the future of the left-back at the Ciutat de Valencia now appears to be in serious doubt after he was detained by police alongside six other people for a total of seven crimes, including extortion. Tono has been detained without bail and it remains to be seen if he will return to action for Levante anytime soon.

Given that judicial proceedings are subject to secrecy, the club, without any prejudice, will show our support to the player and his family,” a statement from Levante said. “We are unaware of the circumstances that led the investigating judge to take such action. ” Tono deserves respect in this difficult moment and is presumed innocent until found guilty. “Until there is any more news or facts about his detention, we will not make any more public statements about this situation.”
