Newcastle United won’t be able to to cash in on striker Dwight Gayle in January despite interest from the Chinese Super League. The 27-year-old, who found himself to be surplus to requirements under Rafael Benitez at St James’ Park this summer, is currently on a season-long loan with Championship outfit West Brom.
Reports over the weekend suggested there was significant interest in China for the former Crystal Palace star and unnamed clubs were thought to be keen on getting a permanent move sorted in January.
However, Newcastle have no recall clause in Gayle’s deal at the Hawthorns, as the transfer was part of a swap deal that saw Salomon Rondon make the move in the opposite direction to the North East.
The Magpies will now have to wait until next summer before they have the opportunity to cash in on Gayle.
