Sources at Old Trafford claim Manchester United will take up their 12-month option to extend Phil Jones’s deal. United chiefs have no intention of letting the England central defender, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, walk away on a free transfer next summer.

Jones has been at the Theatre of Dreams since 2011 but has found regular starting opportunities harder to come by since Jose Mourinho took over the managerial reins two years ago.
The former Blackburn Rovers academy graduate is regularly plagued by injury problems and has made just two appearances so far this season, adding to his growing frustration.
Reports have suggested both Arsenal and West Ham United may be keen on the burly 26-year-old, with the Red Devils wanting to protect themselves before deciding what now happens next summer.
Jones is understood to be ready to commit his peak years to United but knows he needs to be back playing regularly to convince them he is worthy of another long-term deal.
