Villa Close In On Bees’ Stopper

Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on a £10million swoop for Brentford defender Ezri Konsa. Villa boss Dean Smith is working hard to bolster his squad on their return to the Premier League and he has already drafted in six new faces this summer.

Having wrapped up the signing of Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth on a permanent basis this week, Smith is poised to raid his former club for the highly-rated 21-year-old centre-back, Konsa. The youngster was signed for the Bees by Smith from Charlton 12 months ago in a £2.5m deal and he made 47 appearances in all competitions at Griffin Park last term.

But Brentford have now appeared to pave the way clear for Konsa to be reunited with Smith by signing Pontus Jansson from Leeds and Barnsley’s Ethan Pinnock this week. The player is highly-rated by Smith, who backed the England youth international to enjoy a successful career when he signed him last summer. “It is a really exciting signing for us because of his age, potential and attitude,” he told Brentford’s official website in 2018. “He has played a lot of games at League One level and his potential is unlimited.”
