Wagner Set For New Coaching Role

Former Huddersfield boss David Wagner is reportedly in advanced talks to become Schalke’s new manager.

The German Bundesliga outfit are on the look out for a new coach after parting company with Domencio Tedesco soon after suffering a humiliating 10-2 aggregate defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League.

An initial move for Wagner was made some weeks ago but the 47-year-old said he was not yet ready to make a return to management. However, he now appears to have had a change of heart and reports are rife suggesting negotiations have reached an advanced stage and an announcement is due.

As a player, Wagner represented Schalke from 1995 to 1997, winning the UEFA Cup during his time at the club, and will now be hoping he can bring back the glory days as coach.

Wagner has been out of work since leaving the Terriers, who he guided to the Premier League via the 2016-17 Championship play-offs, in January with the side heading towards relegation.
