David Wagner insists Huddersfield will be going all out for the victory when they take on Stoke in the Carabao Cup second round on Tuesday.
The Terriers claimed their first point of the new Premier League season during Saturday’s goalless draw with Cardiff and they will now turn their attention to cup action when they head to the bet365 Stadium to take on Championship outfit Stoke.
Wagner insists his side will be doing all they can to make it through to the next round and they will approach the match as if it were a Premier League game.
“It’s a competitive football match and we’d like to win it to come into the next round,” Wagner was quoted as saying on the Huddersfield website. “The only difference is the competition. We will play in, and focus on, another competition where we’d like to be successful on Tuesday night.”
Huddersfield picked up one point from a possible six against Stoke in the Premier League last season and Wagner believes they have been handed one of the toughest draws in the second round.
“For sure, we have one of the most difficult draws we could face in the Northern section. Apart from the other Premier League clubs, Stoke is one of the toughest opponents,” the German added.
“However, this doesn’t change that we will try everything to come into the next round. This is a competition where we’d like to be at our best too.”
