Wallace Shares Southport Lead

Matt Wallace has been joined at the top of the British Masters leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final round.

World number 36 Wallace, who held the halfway lead, started his third round with three straight birdies to stretch his lead at Hillside Golf Club before making another gain at the par-five 11th hole.

That birdie extended the Englishman’s bogey-free run to 47 holes – a European Tour record – but that streak came to an end at the very next hole as he made his first bogey of the tournament.

A double bogey at the 15th dropped him out of the lead but he managed to bounce back with a birdie at the penultimate hole before making par at the last for a two-under-par round of 70.

Wallace has moved to -14 for the Southport event and is joined on that mark by Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult, who made five birdies, an eagle, one bogey and a double bogey in a four-under-par round of 68. Scotland’s Richie Ramsey is two shots off the pace on -12 after signing for a round of 71, giving him sole possession of third, while Belgium’s Thomas Detry holds sixth on -10.

Englishman Eddie Pepperell is sitting on -9 while compatriot Ross Fisher heads a group of six players a shot further back on -8.
