Burnley defender Stephen Ward has returned from international duty ahead of schedule as he struggles with a foot injury. The 33-year-old has been hampered with the injury in the early part of the campaign and was withdrawn early in the games against Watford, Olympiakos and Fulham.
However he was still allowed to go international duty and played for 61 minutes as the Republic of Ireland lost 4-1 against wales in the National League.
The Clarets star picked up his 50th cap in that fixture but he will play no part in Tuesday’s friendly with Poland in Wroclaw as it would be too much of a risk.
Ward will now return to Burnley to undergo further treatment on the injury in the hope he will be ready for the Premier League clash at Wolves this weekend.
Burnley team-mates Kevin Long and Jeff Hendrick remain part of the Republic squad for the friendly in Poland however.
