Watford Working To Address Poor Start – Dawson

Watford defender Craig Dawson says they are putting in the hard yards to recover from a poor start to the 2019-20 campaign. A 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday offered a reason for optimism amongst the Watford faithful, however, they are still without a win after nine games of the term.

Watford boast just four points from a possible 27 and have already parted company with Javi Gracia after he presided over three defeats and one draw in their opening four games.

Quique Sanchez Flores was drafted back in for a second stint and he has stopped the rot to some extent, although they are still without a win.

Dawson, who arrived over the summer from West Brom, believes the Spaniard’s arrival has had a big impact on the squad over the past few months. “The manager is a very positive character and he’s great for the lads,” Dawson said.

Under the new boss, they have drawn three and lost two and were closing in on a first victory of the term against Spurs. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s early strike looked to be enough to finally secure three points but Dele Alli hit late on for the north Londoners.

The draw leaves them four points from safety and only boosted by the fact that they still have 29 games remaining to climb up the table.

Dawson accepts that they have massively underachieved so far but is confident that they can “put things right” if they continue to work hard on the training pitches.

He added: “Obviously the start of the season hasn’t gone to plan, but we’re working very hard during the week as a team, as management and staff as well to put things right and that’s what we’re going to do.”
The Hornets return to home soil for their next league outing when Bournemouth make the trip to Vicarage Road on Saturday.
